Thesis:

This ad is sucessful because it uses emotion to appeal to skateboarders, who are likely a key audience for this ad, and also catches the attention of other athletes who are likely to look at this ad but not necessarily be aware of the issues surrounding skateboarders and the public attitude. The ad portrays Nike as a company that is out to serve the more modern, and perhaps rebelious culture, as opposed to those shown in the commercial to be getting angry (older people and police). Nike is there to support the athlete, despite what others may say about this group of people.

Ashton-
I think this will be a great introduction to your paper. You might see if you can be a bit more specific in your analysis - for example, how does it "catch the attention of other athletes who are likely to look at this ad but not necessarily be aware of the issues .."? Does the ad seek common ground among all athletes? Does it place skateboarding in an unexpected place as "mainstream" sport?
Again, great beginning. I think you'll have lots to talk about in your paper as you begin to give specifics for the way the ad does these things.
Good inclusion of judgment as well.
