A discourse community is a group of people that use language to achieve a common goal or purpose. I used to dance a lot in high school, and that discourse community had very specific vocabulary that helped us work together as a group. Without the knowledge of that language, you were not able to participate in the class or the larger dance pieces we were putting together. Each dance piece was put together from several different dance "moves" that are refered to by very specific vocabulary.

Wow great example! I would have never used dance but you're right, the moves and styles do have very specific vocab. Without that vocab, everyone in the number would be lost.
